Panel -- Developing New Audiences for Film

A Conscious Cinema Celebration

4th Annual Awareness Film Festival

July 25-28, 2013

One-hour panel discussion presented by the Global Event and Media Accessibility Initiative (GEMAI) at the Santa Monica Playhouse:

Saturday, July 27th at 1:00 pm

Santa Monica Playhouse

1404 3rd Street

Santa Monica, CA 90401

Panel discussion championing inclusion for blind, deaf, and hard-of-hearing audiences to be presented at 4th Annual Awareness Film Festival.

This free to the public event will address the innovative new captioning and described video delivery technology and the attendant need for filmmakers to incorporate these applications into their future work. Simple accessories for the movie theater audience will enhance the entertainment experience so as to include the virtually untapped market of over 50 million blind and deaf people in America

As mass media has become more inclusive and accessible to the differently-abled, so this panel will include a “who’s who” of mass media accessibility.  The panel will be moderated by Marc Bovee (gemai.org), founder and chairman of GEMAI and co-founder and CEO of Interpretive Solutions.  Panel members will include Lynn Manning (lynnmanning.com), Eddie Buck (eddiebuck.com), Birdie Bush (line of sight captioning), and Chris Snyder of Audio Eyes (audioeyesllc.com).

After the discussion, a question and answer session will be held with the audience to explain the new technological and sociological innovations and their cinematic potential.  By learning how to make their films accessible to all audiences, both new and experienced filmmakers can build brand awareness to the emerging accessibility market.

This GEMAI presentation will be interpreted for the deaf and hard of hearing.
